The following medical devices were designed to help provide developmentally-friendly neonatal and pediatric care. Developmental care focuses on the special needs of premature babies and other children with fragile and underdeveloped tissue and organ function.
Follow the product links below the procedure descriptions to get additional information on that device. For more specific clinical information on all Neonatal/Pediatric devices please visit the Clinical Support Materials page.

Chest
Drainage - Thora-Cath® relieves the accumulation of air or
blood in the neonatal pleural space resulting from pneumothorax or
hemothorax. The silicone catheter is nonreactive to body tissues,
permitting faster healing and reducing patient morbidity, and resists
clotting and encrustation. The soft tip and catheter body is designed
to minimize potential damage to the pleural wall and lungs.

Long-Term
Enteral Feeding - Nutri-Cath® is an indwelling nasogastric,
orogastric or nasojejunal enteral feeding catheter for continuous
or intermittent neonatal or pediatric feedings up to thirty days’
duration. Its use avoids multiple and frequent feeding tube placements
that are likely to be traumatic to delicate tissues. The optimal biocompatibility
of silicone yields a soft, nonstiffening, nonclogging catheter that
will not perforate or adhere to the lining of the stomach, minimizing
potential interruption to neonatal sleep cycles.
As an alternative for clinicians needing faster flow rates and ease of placement via a stiffer catheter, Nutri-Cath is also available made of Tecoflex® polyurethane. This advanced thermosensitive formulation of polyurethane softens at body temperature such that its physical characteristics emulate silicone after placement. In addition, the higher tensile strength of polyurethane compared to silicone provides more resistance to breaking, and allows a thinner wall thickness for the same size outer diameter, which provides faster feed flow rates.
Nutri-Lok® is a family of locking extension
sets, Monoject™ oral dispensing syringes, Kangaroo ePump™
bag and other enteral feeding accessories for use in conjunction with
Nutri-Cath® that ensure secure connections, and will not mate
with female luer IV line connectors.

Lumbar
Puncture - Myelo-Nate® neonatal/pediatric lumbar puncture
needles and kits provide access to the spinal column for the purpose
of obtaining a cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) sample for diagnostic analysis.
The short bevel design with Quincke type needle minimizes trauma and
infiltration by spreading and displacing rather than cutting through
the dura mater.

Respiratory
Care - Disposa-Hood™ was designed to provide precise oxygenation
with laminar FiO2 distribution and effective CO2 flushing, to maintain
control of a neutral thermal environment important for respiratory
function, and to provide access for timely therapy and avoidance of
cross-contamination not possible with an incubator unit.

Orotracheal
Protection - Pala-Nate® is a soft silicone palatal insert
that protects a neonate during intubation. The adverse effects of
prolonged intubation are numerous and can have permanent negative
consequences in speech, dental and orofacial development.
Peripheral
Central Venous Catheterization - PICC-Nate® is used for central
venous catheter indwelling longevity while minimizing neonatal trauma.
Multiple special design features have been incorporated at clinician
request including developmentally friendly materials, low profile
and extended hub configurations and intracorporeal positioning aids.

Peritoneal
Dialysis - Because critically-ill pediatric patients are unlikely
to have adequate blood volume and vasculature to support hemodialysis,
peritoneal dialysis is an effective therapy to help correct for inadequate
renal function. Dialy-Nate® is a preassembled, closed system including
all the medical device components needed to perform peritoneal dialysis.
As such, it is ready to be used in a timely way and helps avoid inadvertent
disconnections and possible patient infection that can result from
manual assembly of tubing and multiple components in a clinical setting.

Umbilical
Artery/Vessel Catheterization - Umbili-Cath™ umbilical artery/vessel
catheters are designed for ease of insertion, patient safety, and
to minimize irritation to the baby's delicate tissues. Umbili-Cath™
is available in both Silicone and Tecoflex polyurethane materials.
Silicone is known as the most biocompatible and gentle material for
vascular access. Tecoflex is slightly stiffer for insertion, yet softens
at body temperature to emulate the characteristics of silicone after
placement. Umbili-Cath is available in sizes down to 2.8 Fr, providing
access to the smallest babies. Dual and triple-lumen Umbili-Cath are
available to provide a means of infusing incompatible meds or allowing
for continuous monitoring during therapies.

Urinary
Drainage - Uri-Cath™ urinary drainage catheters are used
to obtain urine cultures and accurate urine outputs from neonatal
and pediatric patients. The silicone material of Uri-Cath™ minimizes
urethral irritation and encrustation. This preferred urinary drainage
method eliminates the inconvenience and measurement error associated
with weighing diapers.
