Invasive
Blood Pressure Monitoring - In critical care situations, when
quick changes in blood pressure are expected or when a critically
ill patient requires long-term blood pressure measurement and blood
sampling, use of the Deltran® invasive blood pressure monitoring
system provides the accuracy of measurement at the arterial source
and the convenience of continual pressure measurement and access to
the blood source. The procedure involves placing a cannula needle
into an artery. This intra-arterial cannula is connected to a fluid-filled
system of tubing where a solid column of fluid connects arterial blood
to the Deltran® disposable pressure transducer. The transducer
is connected to a pressure monitor that displays the blood pressure
data graphically on screen and chart paper.

Needleless
Arterial Blood Collection - During invasive blood pressure monitoring,
clinicians often prefer to draw arterial blood samples through the
transducer's high pressure tubing. Clinicians prefer this method because
it takes advantage of the catheter that is already in place. However,
taking samples directly from stopcocks on the high pressure tubing
line opens the system to possible infection from the outside and exposes
the clinician to blood. The Deltran® Plus needleless arterial
blood collection system incorporates an entirely closed system using
needleless technology and the neonatal version of the system is designed
specifically to conserve blood and protect the neonate from infection.

Blood Filtration - The micro filtration of stored blood for neonatal
and pediatric patients is essential since blood, blood components
and other fluids indicated for filtration break down over time resulting
in particulate debris (micro aggregates) that can produce significant
changes to neonatal pulmonary function, including pneumonia. The 18
micron Hemo-Nate® stainless steel filter media efficiently filters
the non-viable micro aggregates, yet allows viable components through
without damage.

Umbilical
Cord Management - The Cordguard™ umbilical cord management
system is an innovative single use device that conveniently and efficiently
performs the following four procedures that occur after the birth
of the neonate: (1) the umbilical cord is clamped next to the neonate,
to assist coagulation and stop the blood flow out of the cord from
the baby. (2) the umbilical cord is cut to separate neonate from mother.
(3) a blood sample from the severed umbilical cord is taken for routine
diagnostic evaluations. (4) the cord and placental tissue attached
to the mother is removed.
