Utah
Medical's Nutri-Cath® is a nasogastric, orogastric or nasojejunal
catheter used for enteral feeding in the neonatal or pediatric intensive
care setting. Nutri-Cath® can indwell for up to 30 days. It avoids
multiple placements with a non-stiffening, non-clogging, biocompatible
silicone material.
EASY: Non-wettable silicone material is ideal for nasogastric or nasojejunal
enteral feeding.
VERSATILE: Also allows for sampling.
SAFE: Soft open end will not perforate, clog or adhere to lining of
stomach during sampling.
COST EFFECTIVE: Saves nursing time and reduces feeding tube usage.
PATIENT COMFORT: Soft, biocompatible silicone does not irritate or
scratch nares like stiffer materials. Because Nutri-Cath® can
be left in for up to 30 days, it avoids multiple repeat placements
which lead to oral aversion and hyperactive gag reflex.
Because
it is silicone, Nutri-Cath® can indwell for up to 30 days without
adverse effects. In comparison to feeding tubes, it avoids the need
for frequent placements that are highly traumatic to a newborn's delicate
tissues.
Nutri-Cath® has a soft open end port and two opposing side ports (see image right) to provide rapid diffusion of enteral feeding formula without clogging. Polyurethane and PVC feeding tubes have closed ends, which eventually occlude and must be changed.
Outstanding Clinical Features
1. Non-wettable silicone material will not perforate,
clog or adhere to lining of stomach during sampling.
2. Less interruption of important sleep cycles because it is softer.
3. Barium sulfate-loaded catheter is highly visible under x-ray for
easy verification of tip placement.
4. Orange hub identifies enteral-only connection to prevent accidental
medication infusion.
5. Depth markings graduated every centimeter.
6. Choice of standard Luer lock connector for continuous feed connection
or oral dose connector for intermittent feeding.
7. Four sizes: 3.5 French, 5 French, 6.5 French, and 8 French sizes
accommodate the full range of babies, even 500g premies.
8. All sizes available in the following lengths: 40 cm, 58 cm, 93
cm.
9. DEHP-Free.
AVOIDING MISCONNECTIONS AND DISCONNECTIONS WITH NUTRI-LOK®
With
the reported increase(1) in accidental misconnections of enteral feeds
to IV lines, Utah Medical augmented Nutri-Cath® with the Nutri-Lok®
adaptor (see image right). Nutri-Lok® is a family of locking enteral-feeding
only extension sets and syringes that eliminate the risk of mating
an IV line with enteral feeds and inadvertent disconnections during
use. (1) "Tubing Misconnections - A Persistent and Deadly
Occurrence," JCAHO Sentinel Event Issue 36.
Will not mate with a female luer IV line connector.
Ensures a secure connection that will not accidentally slip apart
i.e. disconnection.
Is compatible via slip fit with other oral dose enteral feeding catheters,
but only LOCKS with Nutri-Cath®.
DEHP-Free.

Patent Pending.
The clinician-requested additions to Nutri-Lok® Continuous Feed Adaptors provide the following solutions:
Y-Connection Extension Set (model 4150027): Side port allows easy
administration of medications and fluid delivery without disconnecting
the feeding system from the pump.
Gastrointestinal (GI) Extension Set (model 4150037): Stepped adaptor
allows administration of nutritional fluids to patients with gastrostomy
tubes (G-tubes); includes side port.
SYRINGE OR BAG - NUTRI-LOK® PROVIDES YOU WITH OPTIONS
The Nutri-Lok® Monoject™ oral dispensing
syringes
are recognized by existing dispensing syringe pumps, eliminating potential
dosage errors.
Secure locking connections prevent inadvertent disconnections from
occurring.
Will not mate with standard female luers, eliminating misconnections.
Orange tips and printing to denote enteral feeding only.
Eliminates the need for an enteral-only feeding pump.

Patent(s) Pending.
The Nutri-Lok® Oral Dose Straw (415STR) facilitates filling the
syringe with formula prior to feeding.
Nutri-Lok® Oral Dispensing Syringe Caps (415CAP, see image right)
are specifically designed to provide a more secure attachment to Nutri-Lok®
syringes.
Nutri-Lok®
500 ml Enteral Feeding Bags provide patients who require larger feeds
with the clinical benefits and safety advantages of the Nutri-Lok®
feeding family.
Oral dose locking connection ensures bag and Nutri-Cath® catheter
will not accidentally slip apart.
Incorporates an Anti-Free Flow Valve as a safety feature to prevent
free flow of formula into the patient.
Nutri-Lok® connector will not mate with a female luer IV connector.
For use with Kangaroo ePump™ enteral feeding pumps.
DEHP-Free and Latex-Free.
Even if you already meet JCAHO requirements for all oral enteral feeding systems, you may still be taking unnecessary chances. Competitive oral sets and syringes connect via slip fit - when enteral solutions are administered, the connections may become slippery and can easily disconnect. With Nutri-Lok® locking extension sets, syringes and feed bags, the secure locking connections are designed to reduce accidental disconnects.
